Sometimes bigger IS better!

When they unveiled the B990, we were so excited to see how much more you could do because it’s a big machine. It has 14” of throat space, which means that there’s 14” to the right of the needle before you get to the side of the sewing machine. This makes handling large projects like quilts or big embroidery designs so easy. And the new, very appropriately named, Giant Embroidery Hoop is a whopping 16.1″ x 12″. Between the space by the needle and the expanded accessories, the B990 lets you easily quilt or embroider 12” quilt blocks without having to rehoop. But when you are working on something even bigger, the ergonomic twist lock on the hoop keeps hooping and re-hooping projects simple and easy.

The B990 also has a bigger and more advanced touch screen than other sewing machine models out there. It’s 10” touch screen allows you to preview stitches, thread colors, and designs before sewing. The machine’s Placement Scanner and Camera make precise positioning simple, letting you scan the embroidery hoop and preview the needle area directly on-screen. Yes, you read that part right; you can preview and adjust your embroidery to make sure placement is perfect on your fabric. You’ll be able to align your design perfectly between piecing and fabric motifs and can even transfer scanned backgrounds to the optional BERNINA Embroidery Software 9 for additional customization.

New features to make everything easier. 

If your eyes aren’t cooperating and your fingers have problems with fiddly things, you might be someone that dreads threading your machine needle. The engineers of BERNINA have a solution for that! One of the features of the B990 is the Automatic Needle Threader. With just the push of a button, you can thread needles size 70 and up quickly and effortlessly. Additionally, the Pinpoint Laser ensures precision by marking the exact needle entry point, making every stitch perfectly placed.

Quilters are probably familiar with the BSR foot (the BERNINA Stitch Regulator) and you’re sure to love the new BERNINA Integrated Stitch Regulator (BISR). BERNINA took the technology for creating consistent stitch length and put it in the machine so you’ll never have to hunt around or buy an additional foot to get great results. The BISR feature is compatible with all types of quilting, including ruler work, and works seamlessly with the included stitch plate and quilting feet.

We’ve talked a bit about the B990’s machine embroidery capabilities, but the key to perfect placement is its 2-Point and 4-Point Placement tools, which allows you to create the perfect alignment of your quilting or embroidery designs on your projects. Additionally, the WiFi connectivity and the BERNINA Stitchout App enable real-time embroidery monitoring and seamless file transfers between the machine and your computer or smartphone. With 2,927 built-in stitch patterns, the B990 also lets you resize stitches, create your own designs, and save custom patterns using the built-in File Manager.
